As a rule, I only give one piece of advice to new parents unless asked. After all, every child is different, and every parent is different. What works for me, might not work for the next person, and besides, who am I to tell someone how to bring up their kid.
Today I read on facebook about a friend who was told by someone that she should be able to keep her house and manage her children. This ended up with my friend feeling bad, having to justify why her house might not be the cleanest, and what she needed to instead. Why should she have had to justify this? Why did that person feel it their place to say what my friend should be doing?
I realised that this isn’t the first time I have read about parent self-bashing, in fact, I’d say it was a regular event, and always unnecessary.
My one piece of advice? Be kind to yourself.
